I'm not usually a YA reader but this pair captivate my heart. I loved every moment I spent reading this book. There are so many emotions involved. It was a marvelous experience.

Leo is having adapting problems after the death of his and Lila's mother under violent situations. They get transfer into the Poulton's home, a loving family trying to help them get through the traumas they have experienced. But Leo's mistrust gets in the middle and endangers their possibility of recovery. Charlie's efforts to get close to him start to uncover unknown emotions and allow Leo see beyond the pain and start a healing journey.

The characters were so nice. Leo is lovely. I loved everything about him. It was so heartbreaking to see his reactions towards Reg and understand where it all come from. He was a beautiful character and I don't think anyone can read his story without falling in love with him. Charlie was also nice, very sweet and supportive. Both of them had attitudes that reminded me of people their age. Their relationship was endearing, they seemed so happy together and it was great to see Leo getting slowly out of the darkness he was into. I also enjoyed that nothing seemed too rushed, there was enough time for them to trust and care for each other.

I loved the family dynamics even though sometimes they seemed a little too perfect to be real, but I guess it was exactly what Leo and Lila needed. The secondary characters were great. Everyone seemed to have a role in the story and things wouldn't be as good, if it wasn't for the part everyone played in the development of the plot.

The book was very well written. I'd read a couple books from the author, but this has been my favorite so far. I'm not used to reading YA, but this experience makes me want to try more from the genre.

The book comes with no warnings in the blurb, but I recommend to read cautiously because there is a scene with extreme violence at the beginning of it. There's not much violence after that, but beware the prologue. Other than taking that in consideration, I would recommend the book to any reader.
